Technical Content for Semiconductor Buyers: What Engineers Actually Use During Evaluation
Different assets do different jobs
A datasheet is essential, but it cannot replace application guidance. A white paper can frame a technology shift, but it may not answer how to configure the device. A reference design can demonstrate feasibility, while a technical video can show setup or behavior that is difficult to communicate in static copy.
Content strategy should define the engineering job each asset performs instead of producing multiple formats that repeat the same message.
Technical specificity is part of discoverability
Engineers search with technical language: architecture names, protocols, voltage ranges, package types, performance parameters, failure modes, interfaces, standards, and application problems. Content that uses the correct terminology naturally has a better chance of being found in both traditional search and AI-assisted technical research.
That language should come from subject-matter experts and real product behavior. Keyword insertion cannot substitute for technical depth.
Help the buyer compare and rule out
Useful content makes disqualification easier as well as qualification. Clear operating conditions, limitations, compatibility, design tradeoffs, and selection guidance save engineering time and increase trust. Hiding complexity to keep every visitor interested usually creates a poorer buying experience.
RHBlake’s research showing a technical-specificity gap supports a simple principle: give serious buyers enough substance to make progress without a sales call.
Real-world examples create confidence
RHBlake’s thought-leadership research found that 93% of buyers value real-world examples. In semiconductor marketing, that does not have to mean a conventional testimonial. A reference design, benchmark, evaluation result, partner implementation, or detailed application example may be far more useful to an engineer.
The example should make the operating context explicit. A claim that a device ‘improves performance’ is weaker than showing the design constraint, test condition, architecture, and observed result.
Structure content so people and machines can use it
For AI and LLM search, clear entity naming, definitions, comparison tables, descriptive subheads, specifications with context, and concise answer paragraphs make technical pages easier to retrieve and summarize. The same structure helps engineers scan quickly.
Cite standards, product documentation, and first-party research where appropriate. Keep claims precise. Technical content gains authority when another system can trace the statement back to a credible source.
For a technical buyer, the best asset is usually the one that removes the next uncertainty. That might be architecture, interoperability, performance under a specific condition, implementation guidance, or evidence that the supplier understands the intended application.
RHBlake’s semiconductor work with onsemi and Synaptics illustrates this at a practical level. Marketing support has included technical webpages, white papers, videos, product-launch content, and application-focused materials around complex semiconductor platforms. Those formats are useful because they answer different questions at different points in evaluation rather than repeating the same product claim in multiple media.
Technical content should map to the engineering question
What this looks like in practice
Engineers routinely move between a datasheet, an application note, a reference design, a distributor page, and a forum or independent source while evaluating a component. Those assets should agree on terminology, limits, use cases, and differentiators. Small inconsistencies create unnecessary doubt and make machine-generated answers less reliable too.
Semiconductor content should shorten the distance between “this might fit” and “I can evaluate this confidently.” The most useful content library is organized around the engineering decisions that have to happen in between.
